This web site is to help residents of Trenton, Maine
better understand their trash (‘solid waste’). The town’s Solid Waste Committee is
actively pursuing various methods to curb costs and to make it easier for
town residents and businesses to recycle and properly dispose of various
waste materials, including hazardous materials.
The Town of Trenton, Maine currently does not offer
trash removal services from homes or businesses. However, when individuals or businesses
pay for trash to be picked up, they may not realize that the Town is paying
the fees for that trash to be processed by Eastern Maine Recycling (EMR)
transfer station in Southwest Harbor, and then to be burned at the PERC
incinerator in Orrington (which also covers PERC’s costs to dispose
of their burned residue in a landfill).
We also pay EMR various monthly ‘access fees’ for the
right to dispose of our various other waste materials there – such as
recyclables, metals and construction debris.
